Work History
I have acquired and edited news articles, investigative reporting, fiction, creative nonfiction, and more. In my free time, I copyedit and proofread scholarly books, young adult novels and children’s poetry.
Below is a quick overview of my full-time work history and freelance work, as well as a list of articles I’m proud to have edited. This is not a complete resume, but if you’d like to know more, feel free to contact me. You can also check out articles I’ve written here.
Work History
At present, I am senior editor & writer for Northwestern Magazine, Northwestern University’s flagship alumni publication. Here’s a run-down of other publications I’ve worked for full-time.
Senior Editor & Writer
Northwestern Magazine
Feb 2021 - Present
I help manage the production of Northwestern Magazine, published 3x/year. I write between 30% - 50% of the content per issue (excluding Class Notes), and edit much of the content as well. I do original reporting, interviewing, writing and editing of major feature articles, as well as shorter, zippier content. I also help storyboard Instagram stories, produce short videos, and develop interactive digital presentations of magazine content.
Interim Executive Editor; Managing Editor
In These Times
July 2018 - Feb 2021
In These Times is a leftist, political and labor rights magazine, published 12x/year. I supervised the creative director, assistant editor, 4-6 interns, and about a dozen contractors on a day-to-day basis. I acquired and edited content for the magazine's print and online presence, led fact-check training for interns, and streamlined editorial production to reduce staff overtime.
Managing Editor
Orion
Dec 2016 - June 2018
Orion is an environmental literary magazine, published 6x/year. I acquired and edited creative nonfiction, organized logistics for Orion’s presence at national events (AWP) and writing conferences (Bread Loaf Environmental Writer's Conference), and moderated panels with acclaimed authors. I supervised the production manager, poetry editor and reviews editor.
Managing Editor
The Common
June 2013 - April 2016
The Common is a sense-of-place literary journal published 2x/year. As the journal’s first managing editor, I acquired and edited fiction and nonfiction, transitioned the journal into using Submittable as its submissions manager, developed production and organizational processes from the ground up, served as lead customer service rep, wrote successful applications for NEA grants, represented the journal at AWP and other bookfairs, and supervised/mentored editorial interns.
